Yo-Yoing on Yoast as Ringo's killer
Thu Jul 01, 8:23

In the thread below on the possibility of John Yoast, the discoverer of Ringo's body, also being his killer, it is stated that he was German and on the other side of the Mason County War from Johnny. After failing to ascertain Yoast as a German surname, I find it somewhat concerning that I find no German surnames in the family he married into, or that his children married into. In addition, this info shows John B. marrying Carrie Stone in Llano County, Texas in 1883 and the subsequent birth of their son in Loyal Valley (Mason County) in 1884. This raises several questions. Loyal Valley was a stronghold of opposition to the mostly German Mason County mob and, in fact, had elected John Ringo as a constable just as the MCW began to wind down. So, did the John Yoast who discovered Ringo's body move to Texas shortly thereafter and why would he then move to an area that had strongly supported Ringo's side in the feud and Ringo personally? I've ordered Kevin Hogge's book, so I might stop asking these questions soon.

I would really like to know Steve Gatto's opinion on this.

Bob, I am not aware of any information that places John Yoast in the Mason County area from 1874 to 1878 or of any information that he participated in the feud himself. Even if John Yoast knew Joh... more

Re-reading Mason County War books and articles, Loyal Valley had a large German population, after all, even if it did elect Ringo constable.
