Friend and author Michael Hickey died on October 6, 2014. At some point in the preceding five years, he told me that he had received a scathing letter from David H. Cruickshanks demanding that Hickey retract the statement in one of his books that the handwritten notes from "DHC" on the Adelia Earp interview were by Cruickshanks. Flummoxed, Michael asked him by letter (Michael did not email) if the copy he had provided to the Colton library had not been written on at the time it was donated. I may have had a couple of short conversations with Michael in the next few years but we never spoke about Cruickshanks again. Due to the extreme kindness of one Thomas Gaumer, I have what I believe are about 1/2 of Hickey's research notes and correspondence for his Warren Earp and Johnny Ringo books and some later material, but nothing regarding Cruickshanks is among its documents.

gobs I'm sure the quote of "DHC" notes on the Adelia interview was from either Michael's Johnny Ringo or Warren Earp book. The info about receiving a letter from someone who claimed to be Cruickshanks... more
